The ride will be a social group-ride on gravel, paved and some dirt roads. Entirely devoted to being outside together. The mostly flat course, will lead you past Brugge, Sluis, Damme & Het Zwin. We ride on quiet roads, mainly beautiful gravel, although sometimes a Cobbledsection or mud puddle will pass. When we return from the sea you can choose between a winding MTB track or the wider farm road which unfortunately contains many potholes. The route is variable and beautiful, and who knows when it is low tide we can try to ride the beach.

Included in the ticket price will be:

  • A breakfast buffet provided by Steershop / The Rabbit Hole.
  • A guided Social group ride with a lot of experience on Gravel, Dirt and Paved roads.
  • A Ferm kombucha and homemade bread pudding halfway through our adventure.
  • A drink after the Ride.
  • The GPX track of this adventure and most previous rides .
  • Free photo & Video service on the social media of Gravel & Coffee Facebook Instagram Youtube

Gravel & Coffee is a series of social gravel rides organized by Der Lokomotiv, Cycling Adventures. We have carefully chosen the roads so that we can have the best possible group experience.  The ride should not be too technical but some more challenging sections can spice the ride. Our adventures will entirely be devoted on being outside together.

Mountain Bikers and the more experienced Roadies are welcome, but the track is made with Gravel Bikes in mind. So if you accompany us, be mentally prepared for a route that is not always the most suitable for your bike.

The gravel rides are unsupported, what means there will never be a car nearby. We will have to solve our mechanical problems ourselves. So you will have to bring and carry your own stuff, but it is still a social event, so We will help each other out. We will leave no one behind.

Wearing a bicycle helmet is mandatory during our journeys

Every participant declares to be the holder of a third-party civil liability insurance policy

Our adventure is a social story, both to members of the group and to outsiders. Respect the highway code and be courteous to other road users. Gravel paths are excellent and often busy hiking trails, where people with children and pets experience their own adventures. A group of cyclists can quickly come across as a threat, so we kindly ask you to pass serene and say Hi. This way we can ensure that these types of journeys can continue to exist.

Classics Story, The Northern Way

The Story:

Due to COVID-19 the first edition of Classics Story is, just like the Classics, a bit delayed. Not April 11, 2020 9 am in 't Kuipke, Ghent, but September 12 2020 this incredible adventure will be ready to start. I would like to invite and challenge you. Get ready for the first edition of: Classics Story, The Northern Way Everyone loves a good tale. We Cyclists, all love the classics and the stories that were written on those legendary roads. Now it is time for some new chapters, and you can help to write or ride them. Get ready for a 1200 km bikepacking adventure, on the legendary roads of the Classics. You will conquer lots of Cobbles & Bergs seen in 10+ Classic Bike Races. We’ve worked hard to bring you the most exciting bikepacking event in the world. So sit back, relax and get ready to launch yourself into the most challenging classic bike race. Feel the classics, taste the famous cycling history, write your own story on the most legendary roads and enjoy the landscapes in this cycling adventures. No support and just a few rules. We’ll give you an amazing track and a control card mainly to be used for a drink in some of the nice bike cafés that you will pass by. All The rest is up to you. An epic journey through cycling history will be provided during this adventure. This is also a personal challenge, one you have never cycled before!
oh yes, if the coronavirus makes our adventure impossible in September, your ticket will automatically be rebooked to the 2021 edition. This will leave Ghent April 10th.
The Route:
The route will start in Ghent, at ‘t Kuipke, the track where the most famous 6 days race takes place. from there we will challenge you over lots of legendary cobbled roads and bergs. We will pass by sections of Omloop Het Nieuwsblad, Kuurne Brussel Kuurne, Nokere Koerse, Dwars Door Vlaanderen, E3 Prijs, Gent Wevelgem, Ronde Van Vlaanderen, Paris Roubaix, Amstel Gold Race, Brabantse Pijl, Flèche Wallonne, Liège Bastogne Liège Dwars Door Het Hageland and Brussel Cycling Classic. In 2 of these races there are some gravel sections, and along the route, when we connect the different race passages, we have chosen the most secure roads, so some extra gravel roads are added for your security. But all of these sections will be smoother than the best cobbled section and we guarantee it is roadbike proof. Der Lokomotiv did test ride all with 25 mm Vittoria’s Corsa tires and did not experience any problem. The start will be given the day before the pro Riders conquer their Paris Roubaix. So it is likely that the second day their race will stop you, please enjoy the passage and give them a big thumbs up. it is absolutely forbidden to ride your bike before the green flag has passed. For those of you, who would like to experience a little more cycling history during their adventure. In Roeselare we pass by Museum Koers, in Oudenaarde CRVV and at the Balenberg, Sven Nys Cycling Center. Your visit is included in the starting price. On Wednesday the Brabantse pijl starts in Leuven. It should be doable to visit the start and make it in time for the finish party. Although you can not hesitate a lot afterwards. There is still 470 km to ride. We will finish in Valkenburg at Fixed Gear Coffee, at the feed of the Cauberg. There we will have the finishers party on Friday. On saturday the Amstel Gold Race Cyclo and on sunday the Amstel Gold Race itself will take place and these events will make it impossible to finish later. Because no other riders will be allowed on the course. There should be enough time to finish this adventure with just daytime riding. Therefore we don’t recommend participants to cycle during nighttime. If you decide to do this, it is mandatory to use an appropriate front and rear lighting as well as a high visibility reflective clothing. Be aware of the fact that cycling consecutively for many days, with few or no rest, can cause hallucinations and drastically lower the threshold of attention on the road and the perception of danger.
Classics Story, The Northern Way 2022
Classics Story will finally come home. in 2021 we will drive between Amstel and Roubaix. More info at the Classics Story Page.

Our adventures will entirely be devoted on being outside together.

Mountain Bikers and the more experienced Roadies are welcome, but the track is made with Gravel Bikes in mind. So if you accompany us, be mentally prepared for a route that is not always the most suitable for your bike.

The gravel rides are unsupported, what means there will never be a car nearby or feeding stations on the way. We will have to solve our mechanical problems ourselves. So you will have to bring and carry your own stuff, but it is still a social event, so We will help each other out. We will leave no one behind.

Wearing a bicycle helmet is mandatory during our journeys

Our adventure is a social story, both to members of the group and to outsiders. Respect the highway code and be courteous to other road users. Gravel bikeraft & Coffee, The Old City of Ghent Bikerafting is a new sport where you take a Packraft* with you during your cycling adventure. After a nice breakfast we leave at Cup in Ghent, the gravel ride prior to our boat trip through the beautiful heart of Ghent. will walk on beautiful gravel roads, where we can cycle together and a sturdy racing bike tire will not get you in trouble. Of course MTBs are also welcome. Once we have arrived at the kajack berth of the Blaarmeersen, we will start a difficult task, according to Bart Der Lokomotiv, of blowing up the boat. But, we can do it! During this process a picnic will be provided, so Bart will have enough time to blow up his boat. Once the Bikes are securely tied to the boats. we continue our adventure on the water, along green banks to the old town. The 10 km long journey will lead us along the Graslei to the Gravensteen. We then return to cup behind the Opera and past the modernistic Krook. With a bit of luck, the scenes of 'The Lamb of God' will still be in the tunnel that will bring us to the Reep. After drying the boats, we give them in good hands with Kim and we drink another coffee at Cup. Count on at least 6 to 7 hours for this pleasant adventure in and around Ghent. Are included in the price

  • Guided Gravel & Raft adventure
  • A Ferm Kombucha and savory snack between the ride and the raft
